1903 The Country Club Yearbook - Constitution, By-Laws, & List of Members
This is rare artifact from the very early days of The Country Club. The soft cover book contains The Country Club’s Rules, Constitution, by-laws and list of members. The stated purpose of The Country Club at that time was “for the purpose of the encouragement of athletic exercises and the establishment and maintenance of places for reading-rooms and social meetings “. There is a Golf Committee listed within. It included Herbert Jacques who was the president of the USGA in 1909 (see page 81 in The Story of Golf at The Country Club). Listed as a member on page 48 in the 1903 yearbook is Benjamin Phipps, likely the father of the Country Club 1902 trophy winner Anita Phipps which is offered elsewhere in this auction. The book also contains a listing of the Golf Rules for the club. One rule states that if you were a lady of a member’s family and turned in a verified score of 125 or less you would be granted full privileges of the course for the entire season.
