1911 Sterling On Glass Ewer Englewood New Jersey Golf Club
This beautiful and unique sterling on glass pitcher or ewer was awarded to winner H. M. Coxe on July 3, 1911 by the Englewood Golf Club. It was likely for triumph in a Fourth of July related holiday tournament. This event was held two years after Englewood hosted the 1909 USGA Open Championship (won by Englishman George Sargent) and five years after Englewood was the site of the 1906 USGA Amateur Championship (won by Eban Byers). The trophy features a sterling grapevine design and measures approx. 7 inches tall to the top of the original stopper and approx.. 6 inches wide. Stamped on the bottom rim “sterling d 3 c 8 “Sadly the Englewood Golf Club no longer exists due to freeway construction, but this scarce item offers the successful bidder an opportunity to hang onto a piece from an historically significant New Jersey State and United States Golf Association venue.
