1914 Calumet Country Club Solid 14k Gold Medal Won by George H Lindsay
A Donald Ross gem positioned in greater Chicago, Calumet Country Club, opened its doors in 1901 and has hosted notable championship golf tournaments at the highest level in the 1924 Western Open and the 1945 Chicago Victory Open, the 8th of Byron Nelson's 11 straight wins. A quick 30-minute train ride from downtown, the accessible club presented worthy recipient George H. Lindsay with the solid 14k gold medal you see here after his low qualifying score at the club championship on August 22, 1914. Calumet Country Club used a non-traditional medal design when commissioning this prize, featuring a handle rising up from the bottom to encompass both the club name and "3C" circle logo with crossing clubs and a sand tee perched ball in shallow relief. A visual spectacle in itself, more than a century ago the still thriving Calumet Country Club handed this out to Lindsay. 1 3/8" diameter
