1918 Red Cross Bronze Medal W.G.A. Awarded to John G. Anderson - Top Amateur, Winged Foot G.C.
Some of Golf's biggest names supported the World War I effort through exhibition matches. Showcasing their skills across the United States in exhibitions that raised funds for the American Red Cross. This bronze medal was presented to John G. Anderson for his involvement in these events. Anderson at the time was sports advisor to John Wanamaker. An accomplished amateur player, he won 53 titles in sectional and national play. Twice he reached the final of the National Amateur, losing to Jerry Travers in 1913 and to Bob Gardner in 1915. In 1924 and again in 1926 he won the French Amateur championship. A member of Winged Foot G.C., Anderson was also president of the Westchester County Golf Association and a four-time winner of that organizations amateur title. Bold Red Cross emblem with enamel intact on front 2" diameter bronze award. Reverse employs wording Supremacy, Generosity and Patriotism to impart the sentiment of the times. Inscription on medal reads John G. Anderson In recognition of services in golf matches under auspices of WESTERN GOLF ASSOCIATION 1918.

All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15-minute time period (at 10pm ET, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval). Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm ET
**If extended bidding goes pass midnight ET, The Golf Auction reserves the right to close the auction at any time. We recommend bidders place their maximum bids prior to that time. Thank you**
