1926 Francis Ouimet Signed (TLS) on MetLife Letterhead


The stand out amateur golfer, Ouimet,is frequently referred to as the "father of amateur golf" in the United States. He won the U.S. Open in 1913, and was the first non-Briton elected Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974. This missive of congratulations to David Sutherland was composed on insurance letterhead which measures 7 1/4" x 8 1/4". Sutherland was a trick shot artist who appeared in several exhibition matches with Ouimet in this time period. The photo of Westwood C.C. on reverse side measures 9 1/2" x 8 3/4".

James Spence Authentication(JSA) has reviewed this signature, and their letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
