1930 Bobby Jones Victory At Us Open Type 1 Photo PSA#84170753
Encapsulated by PSA/DNA and christened with their dazzling 'Type I' classification is this Bobby Jones Grand Slam 1930 US Open Trophy Ceremony shot in which Champion Jones received the coveted 1st place prize from USGA President and fellow career amateur golfer Findlay Douglas. Members of Interlachen dressed to the 9's sit in a row of wooden chairs to the side of the presentation table, surrounded by Minneapolis-based residents following Bobby in the gallery and witnessing history being made first hand congregate behind. Star amateur Bobby Jones would finish as the only golfer par or better at -1, with runner-up MacDonald Smith (+1) awarded the winner's prize of $1,000.
George Trevor, sportswriter for the New York Sun, would phrase Jones' four Major triumphs in 1930 as Jones "stormed the impregnable quadrilateral of golf." This event captivated the minds of most 1930's Americans whether they were golf fans or not, offering the opportunity to see one of the grandest moments in the Golden Age of Sport, Bobby Jones' accomplishment as the only player to win the pre-Masters era Grand Slam. Trophy ceremony shots remain among the finest in the category, with the single still representing champion golfer's collective achievement - this being Bobby Jones's Grand Slam leg 3 out of 4!
