1930 US Open at Interlachen CC Final Round Ticket #4146 - Bobby Jones Grand Slam - PSA Pop 1/1
With the towering pile of PSA submissions that have been processed recently climbing to skyscraper altitude, it still remains difficult to find a population 1/1 in 2022 ticket collecting of significant sporting events. Couple that scarcity with a FINAL ROUND ticket to witness larger-than-life Bobby Jones win the 1930 US Open during his Grand Slam year and that is what we have here.
Investors and collectors alike will key into this slabbed needle in a haystack with complete hyperfocus. This off-white octagonal ducat with jet black print is outlined in vibrant red and in condition very similar to which it was purchased in 92 years ago. The original cost was $3, a small fraction of its monetary value, now positioned as a 1 of a kind in slabbing by PSA. Label title above ticket reads: "Bobby Jones won his fourth and final US Open at Interlachen in 1930." PSA certificate #63865842 can be found to the left, above the authentic designation.
George Trevor, sportswriter for the New York Sun, would phrase Jones' four Major triumphs in 1930 as Jones "stormed the impregnable quadrilateral of golf." This event captivated the minds of most 1930's Americans whether they were golf fans or not, offering the opportunity to see one of the grandest moments in the Golden Age of Sport, Bobby Jones' accomplishment as the only player to win the pre-Masters era Grand Slam. Amateur Bobby Jones would finish as the only golfer par or better at -1, with runner-up MacDonald Smith (+1) awarded the winner's prize of $1,000.
