1931 Bobby Jones NBC Wire Photo

This 8" x 10" wire photo is for a press release for Bobby Jones' radio show. The back of the photo reads:

"Bobby jones has shelved "Calamity Jane", his famous putter, temporarily at least, and will devote himself for the time being to patter instead of putters. The world's most famous golfer has just signed a contract with the Lambert Pharmacal Company for twenty-six weekly broadcasts, beginning January 14. He will be heard at 8 o'clock every Wednesday evening over WEAF and a nation-wide hook up of the N.B.C. chain. Officials of the Lambert Company announce that Mr. Jones is preparinghis own programs, which will include reminiscences of his many years of tournament golf and some hints to aspiring players. The Jones voice has been tested for the various qualities that make up "radio personality" and reported to be several strokes better than par." Copyright Wide World From: Malkus & Chaplin, 3904 Chrysler Bldg., New York City.

His first radio show broadcast was January 14, 1931. This occurred less than four months after Jones captured the sporting world with his "Grand Slam" during the 1931 golf season.
