1933 US Open Display Piece

This 11” x 14” broadside advertised the coming of The 37th US Open Golf Championship to North Shore Golf Club on June 8 – 10, 1933. There is a small photo which depicts Gene Sarazen holding both the US Open and the British Open Cup as defending champion in both of these events. This period piece also encourages fans to come out and see some of the greatest golfers of the 1930’s; including Tommy Armour, Paul Runyan, Walter Hagen, Craig Wood, Horton Smith and Denny Shute. These, stars of the day, were all upstages by Johnny Goodman when he won the 1933 US Open. He became the fifth amateur following Travers, Ouimat, Evans and Jones to win both the US Open and Amateur Championships when he won the US Amateur in 1937. This broadside is in overall good condition. There is creasing in the upper right and lower left corners which does not detract from the overall beauty of this 75 year old piece.
