1934 PGA Ticket Signed by Champ Paul Runyan and Runner Up CRAIG WOOD

In the 17th P.G.A. Championship, Paul Runyan defeated Craig Wood in an exciting two hole playoff to capture the first of his two P.G.A. major titles at Park Country Club outside of Buffalo, New York. This is a final round paper ticket to that contest, autographed by both the winner and the runner-up, Craig Wood. Paul Runyan, dubbed “Little Poison” for his superb short game, survived the grueling six day, 12 round (216 holes) contest despite being outdriven by his opponent by 40 plus yards. The ticket has its original string, a slight tear and a spot near Craig Woods autograph but both signatures have clearly passed the J.S.A. authentication test. Paper tickets to early golf tournaments are hard to find; one that has been autographed by both the winner and runner-up, especially the Craig Wood autograph, are in the rare category.

Playing out of Metropolis Country Club in White Plains, N.Y. for most of his career, Runyan was a member of the 1933 and 1935 Ryder Cup teams. He played in the first Masters in 1934, finishing in a tie for third place, two shots behind Horton Smith, and was among the top four finishers in the Masters four times.

A member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, Runyan amassed 29 PGA tour victories. Only Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, and Snead had more tournament victories in a single year than Runyan’s nine in 1933, a total matched by Tiger Woods in 2000.

In 1934, Runyan won seven more tournaments, including the P.G.A. In 1938, he beat the long driving Snead in the most one-sided final of the tournaments’ 39 years of match play. All of this and he only stood 5feet 7 inches tall and weighed just 125 pounds.Craig Wood was another early golf superstar amassing 21 P.G.A. Tour wins including the Masters and the U.S. Open in 1941. Craig was a member of three Ryder Cup teams and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2008. Swcuring his autograph on almost any golf item is difficult, but having it on a major championship ticket is almost impossible to find.

This ticket would enhance the collection of the most sophisticated golf collector.

James Spence Authentication(JSA) has reviewed this signature, and their letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
