1934 General A.C. Critchley Putting at The 1st Masters Wire Photo

General Alfred Critchley represented one of the many international players at the inaugural Masters Tournament. He was a notable commander, entrepreneur and politician in the UK and a heck of a golfer when he wasn't busy with those. This offering captures the general putting. "Instead of having their assigned numbers on their golf bags, the 60 professionals and 12 amateurs in that first Masters wore their numbers on their sweaters!" Augusta Magazine went on to say. "Critchley was assigned No. 2. The bearer of No. 1 was Sam Perry of Birmingham, Ala. The great Jones (listed in the pairings respectfully as Robert T. Jones Jr.) wore No. 16, and the eventual champion, Horton Smith, wore lucky No. 7." The verso caption reads: 'At Augusta Masters' Golf Tournament - General A.C. Critchley, of England, shown as he competed in The Masters' Invitation Golf Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, GA, March 23. 6" x 8"
