2014 Spring Golf Memorabilia Auction

1946 Mexico City C.C. Champions Sterling Pitcher
With his blond hair bleached by the brilliant Mexican sun, the 25 year old Frank Stranahan made the Mexican Amateur his first career National Amateur title. The triumph did not come easy this time for Stranahan beginning in the semi-finals when he won a hard fought match over his frequent adversary Smiley Quick. The margin of victory in the final was 3 and 2 with Early R. Stewart of Houston on the losing end. In Mexican tradition the winners award was always worth the effort, this time it was a detailed etched pitcher which was engraved: 1946 - Mesico - City Country - Club - Black and White Ball - Champion
2nd Inscription reads: Frank R. Stranahan - Mexico - City Country Club - Black and White Ball
Inscription on front reads: Mexico - Golf. The underside of this treasured trophy proclaims that it is precious Mexican .925 sterling.
8 1/4" x 5" 11"
A portion of the Frank Stranahan collection proceeds will be donated to The First Tee of Lake Erie.
