1946 Masters Players Gift Plate - Original Felt Bag
Made by JE Caldwell & Co. of Philadelphia for the 1946 Masters Tournament is this wonderful dish made of porcelain and sterling silver. These were given to participants in the 1946 field with some being engraved and others not. This non-engraved version is in excellent condition which is a testament to his previous ownership’s care of this amazing golf relic. These dishes are usually cracked or dinged but this one is just superb for its age and rarity with only minor foxing. Comes with the ever difficult to find original cloth cover. The 1946 Masters players gift plate measures 7 7/8" diameter and depicts the clubhouse at the Augusta National. This treasured keepsake was the first installment of a yearly tradition began that year of presenting a gift to each of the contestants in the invitational event. Next to the assembling of a run of tickets/badges from each of the Masters tournaments the collecting of each of the awarded player gifts has become a favorite among advanced Masters collectors. This initial offering featured a richly colored, of highest detail plate which has become a true lynch-pin of completing this collection.
