1947 Ryder Cup Program

With food rationing still in effect in Great Britain, the first post World War II Ryder Cup was pulled together in 1947 as an attempt to return the golfing world back to the way things had been prior to the horrors of war. Heavy rain saturated the course for both the opening day foursome matches and the 10 singles matches the second and final day. An estimated crowd of 5,000 trudged through mud throughout the matches. These conditions undoubtedly led to the condition of the listed 1947 program which must be described as being in poor condition. It however has all inside pages intact featuring the victorious US team captained by Ben Hogan which featured Sam Snead, Jimmy Demaret, and Byron Nelson in a 11-1 victory by the USA over Great Britain. Collectors of Ryder Cup programs usually value the 1947 edition at $1,000. We start this scarce one off at far less.
