1947 Masters Sunday Ticket Signed by Bobby Jones, Demaret, Nelson, and Stranahan

Not only is this the finest condition 1947 Masters Sunday Ticket offered in auction, but it is signed by none other than Bobby Jones. If that isn't unique enough, the champion Jimmy Demaret has also added his signature which is then accompanied by signatures from both Runner-Up finishers Byron Nelson and Frank Stranahan. Truly a one of a kind experience to have this item in your collection. An extreme few number of Bobby Jones signed Masters tickets are known, and even fewer have been up for auction.

This ticket belonged to South Carolina Golf HoFer Mike Serino, a long-time golf professional at Fort Jackson, SC. As stated in his Hall of Fame bio, he was a great instructor and promoter of golf, and helped introduce the WSCGA statewide. This was his personal ticket to the 1947 competition, and it was signed by all four golfers on Sunday at the closing ceremonies of the 1947 Masters Tournament. After his passing, the ticket was passed on to his wife, and then to her brother upon her passing. His passing put in the hands of his daughter(the Grandmother of our consignor) upon his passing; this great condition ticket has remained within the family for nearly 70 years. This is one of the very few ways a ticket can arrive in auction as opposed to a private sale, by it staying within a family passed down through relatives.

Jimmy Demaret won the tournament and joined Horton Smith and Byron Nelson as the only two-time winners of the Masters. One of the earliest known tickets signed by a Masters Winner. Bobby Jones was competing in his 2nd to last Masters, and a signed ticket while still in competition are very few in number. Demaret would go on to win his 3rd Green Jacket in the 1950 contest. The amateur Stranahan who with his 68 for the Sunday round moved into a tie for second overall two strokes behind Demaret; ironically tied with Byron Nelson, his former instructor at Toledo's famed Inverness Golf Club. Stranny's 283 score demolished the previous best amateur mark for the four day event which had been set by Lawson Little in 1935 at 288. String is missing but no tear at top, slight crease near top on front and reverse. Ticket is #2766.
