1948 Mexican Open Baja Calificacion Sterling Bowl
In one of his finest amateur golf seasons, Frank Stranahan had already claimed the National amateur titles of Britain and Canada during the summer. He made it three countries in which he was amateur title holder on October 24 of 1948 when he rammed home a birdie putt on the 29th hole of the 36 hole finals match to close out Chuck Kocsis of Detroit, 9 and 7.
For this significant international victory Stranahan received the trophy which is offered in this lot and is etched: Asoc. Mexicana De Golf - 1948 - Categoria "Campeonato" - Baja Calificacion.
Underside of trophy is engraved: Mexico Sterling S925.
9" diameter and 3 1/4" tall.
A portion of the Frank Stranahan collection proceeds will be donated to The First Tee of Lake Erie.
