1948 North & South Amateur-Frank Stranahan's Low Qualifiers Gold Medal
Frank Stranahan, paired with the legendary Chick Evans who had not played the event since he won the North and South in 1911, led the 64 qualifiers for the 1948 North and South Amateur championship by firing a one-under par 71. The Toledo, Ohio, strongboy, topped 127 simon pures who trudged over the 6,879 yards of Pinehurst famed No. 2 course. His was the only sub-par round recorded in Qualifying. For this accomplishment Frank won the 1 1/2 diameter gold medal which is offered here:
