1949 French Open Tournament 1st Amateur Cup(Puiforcat Trophy)-Won by Frank Stranahan
In 1949 while preparing for the British Open, Frank Stranahan competed at St. Germaine-En-Layne in the French Open. His score of 284 placed him fifth overall trailing only four European pro's, and earned him the low amateur trophy. This award of achievement was produced by the acclaimed French silversmith house Jean Puiforcat. His designs earned him the title, "The Most Important French Art Deco Silversmith" with his works being highly collected by Andy Warhol. Today these works are held in museums across the world.
The trophy won by Stranahan in France is offered in this lot with etchings worded: Championnat De France - International Omnium - 1949 - 1ER Amateur.
Back inscription reads: F.F.G.
Bottom reads: Jean Puiforcat Paris. 4 1/8" diameter and 5" tall
A portion of the Frank Stranahan collection proceeds will be donated to The First Tee of Lake Erie.
