1949 Greater Greensbroro Open Low Amateur Trophy - 39" TALL
As Sam Snead dominated the Greater Greensboro Open's professional division winning the event a PGA record, for any single tournament, eight times. So Frank Stranahan dominated the amateur division of the event claiming the low simon pures trophy four times. In 1949 at the 12th annual event Stranahan came oh so close to muscling in on Snead's title and altering the PGA record books. The Toledo strongman fired a first round 66 to tie the course record at the Starmount course. When the four rounds were complete his weekends work on the links would total 278 with Snead and Lloyd Mangrum tied at 276. A playoff Snead would win on his way to the record eight triumphs at Greensboro. Low amateur honors and the grand sized trophy which came with it were Stranahan's. (**Please note**)Main trophy is separated from it's bottom base and priced at a reduced minimum bid.
