1951 Western Amateur-Frank Stranahan's Champions Sterling Pitcher
In 1951, at 28 years of age Frank Stranahan claimed his third of what would be four career prestigious Western Amateur championships. Playing some of the best golf of his career, Frank in the 36 hole final was 10 under after 30 holes. His overmatched,7 and 5, opponent was Jim Blair. An interesting note shows that the 19-year-old Blair had at a younger age caddied for Stranahan.

Inscription on facing lists that the trophy went to the CHAMPION 49th WESTERN AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP SOUTH BEND, INDIANA FRANK STRANAHAN. Bottom reads: Reed and Barton Sterling X766 8HP.
