1954 US Amateur Program - Arnold Palmer's 1st Major Win- Scarce Spiral Bound Edition
No less an authority then Jack Nicklaus calls the United States Golf Association's Amateur Championship a "Major". Whether it is or not is open to debate. What is known is that the 1954 US Amateur had a fellow who was selling paint in Cleveland (Arnold Palmer) put his golf game to test over a week of gritty match play, and crowned him champion by virtue of a 1-up win in the 36 hole finals match. That weeks event was contested at The Country Club of Detroit, and it is what Mr. Palmer considers the turning point of his career. Offered here is an excellent plus condition official program, produced by the USGA, from that golf history changing Palmer Championship. A note of scarcity is also attached to this lot with the binding on the prized publication being of the spiral nature, with sports publications this usually is designed for ease of use by media and staff working the event with production in extreme small numbers. This compounds with the fact that US Amateur programs from the 1950's have short print runs already. No Palmer or golf publication collection is complete without this cornerstone of Arnold's career.
