1955 USGA Amateur Golf Championship Contestant Badge
Although the famous amateur Harvie Ward would win this championship ( his first of two us amateurs) at The Country Club of Virginia, this contestant badge also has a great association with Jack Nicklaus. At age 15, in this tournament, Jack Nicklaus would make his first of seven straight appearances in the USGA Amateur Championship, winning in 1959 and 1961. Little could Jack ever imagine in 1955 that he would go on to win 8 USGA Championships and now have the winner of the US Open each year receive the Jack Nicklaus Gold medal. 1 1/4"
