1959 Augusta National February Press Release of Clifford Roberts-Announces Jack Nicklaus' First Invite to Play & Arnold Palmer Permanent Spot
This is a most extraordinary original one-page press release distributed on Augusta National letterhead with the dating of February 19, 1959 for media release on February 22. It is crafted under the name of Clifford Roberts, Chairman Masters Tournament Committee with his copied signature appearing at the bottom of this actual 1959 press release which was mailed to various media outlets for press, radio and television coverage of that years soon to be contested 1959 Masters tournament. Two items jump out for their extreme importance to the history of the Masters from that time forward.
First that Jack Nicklaus of Columbus, Ohio has been invited to compete in his first Masters that spring qualifying for this invitation by virtue of his status as a member of the 1959 United States Walker Cup team as hosted by the U.S.G.A.
Secondly that Arnold Palmer as past champion of the 1958 Masters has earned a place in the permanent invitee section for the 1959 Masters.
Condition of this type written release remains immaculate and neat with traditional three-fold mailing creases in place. With foreshadowing to future events this remains some of the most historical information released ever by the Augusta National. The earliest mention of the rookie Jack and the first time defending champion Arnie.

This auction will end at 9:00pm EST Sunday, June 16th (Father's Day) with EXTENDED BIDDING to follow. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will remain open until no items have received a bid within a 15 minute time period (at 10pm EST, the countdown clock will be adjusted to a 5 minute interval)
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins in order to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots that are active in extended bidding will close at the same time, and those with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm EST
