1960 PGA Championship Flag - Hole 5 at Firestone
In the 1960 PGA Championship there were only 13 sub-par rounds in the entire Championship at the rebuilt Firestone Country Country Club in Akron, Ohio. With those scores, a different man turned up as the leader at the end of each round. Arnold Palmer captured the first-round lead with an opening 67. When it was all said and done Jay Hebert had fired a final-round 70, for a one-stroke victory over Jim Ferrier. One of the early, if not the earliest Major Championship course flown flag to be offered at auction. The 5th hole flag that flew at Firestone Country Club during the 1960 P.G.A. Championship. The historical 5th hole marker measures 14"H by 21 1/2"W which shows moderate use over the entire body of the flag. Along the left side of the flag are three brass grommets. As is traditional with PGA Championship in this early 1960's time period the design is a yellow flag which has blue stitched letters and numerals "PGA", "5", & "CHAMPIONSHIP". A tremendous surviving relic from this Major Championship contested 55 years ago
