1962 US Open Championship at Oakmont CC 1st Rd Ticket #7626 - Jack Nicklaus Winner
This 1st round ticket is from Jack's historically significant victory at the 1962 United States Open which saw golf's passing of the torch from the Palmer era to the Nicklaus era. Palmer entered the final day in a four way tie for first after 36 holes with Gary Player and Jack Nicklaus each two strokes back. On the 72nd hole and final hole that day Palmer would be tied with Nicklaus, A.P.'s 12 footer on 18 for birdie and the win would not drop leaving the two tied forcing an 18 hole playoff the next day. Jack Nicklaus would prevail in the Sunday 18 hole playoff for his first career win. Palmer's post match quote to sum up Nicklaus' win would be, "Now that the big guy is out of the cage, everybody better run for cover." This ticket from the first of Jack's 18 Majors and is a daily grounds ticket
