1962 US Open at Oakmont Series Ticket Badge #8313 - Jack Nicklaus Beats Arnold Palmer for First Major
Offered here is a very rare clubhouse series/weekly ticket badge from the 1962 U.S. Open golf tournament held at Oakmont Country Club on June 11-17, 1962. Much has already been written and said about this tournament but suffice it to say this was one of the most iconic golf tournaments in the history of the game. A young Jack Nicklaus unseated the King, Arnold Palmer, in his own backyard. Truth be told, Arnie actually outplayed Jack tee to green but the treacherous greens at Oakmont were no match for Jack Nicklaus as he only had 1 three putt all week compared to Arnie’s 12 three putt greens. Nevertheless, these greats tied after 72 holes and an 18 hole playoff ensued resulting in Jack’s first ever Professional and Major Victory.
This small yellow badge laid witness to this legendary event. Belonging to a member of the Press, the holder of this badge gained entry to each day of the tournament. Few of these clubhouse series/weekly badges exist. The rare but more common 1962 US Open badge is a daily badge which was good for only one day. This wonderful badge allowed entry for each qualifying and tournament round from June 11- 17, 1962. This is one of the most desirable US Open badges we’ve offered and it is truly deserving of being placed in an elite place among other great golf collectibles.
