2016 Masters Champions Dinner Flag Signed by 27 with Palmer, Nicklaus, & Coody Center - Charles Coody Collection
The 2016 Masters Champions dinner was bittersweet for the distinguished group of men in green jackets, as many knew it would likely represent the final appearance by Arnold Palmer. The friendly face and 4-time champion synonymous with The Masters Tournament would pass away five months later after living "A Life Well Played." When it comes to signed Masters Champs flags, many passionate collectors have made note of the impressive quality, location and presentation of signatures from the former champions when signed for their cohorts at the annual Masters Champions Dinner. The brotherhood is small and elite, as those sitting side by side at the oblong table have a large amount of mutual respect for one another that represent different decades and even generations. Charles Coody used this dated Masters flag during the 2016 Champs Dinner as a vehicle for signatures of the greats that were in attendance for host Jordan Spieth's meal, each presented in uniform black sharpie. The impressive 27 signatures is highlighted of course by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, who carefully added their signatures in the center logo with Coody himself. Additional dinner guests and past champions include: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Gary Player, Jordan Spieth (full name), Tom Watson, Jose Maria Olazabal, Angel Cabrera, Bernhard Langer, Ben Crenshaw, Bob Goalby, Sandy Lyle, Zach Johnson, Craig Stadler, Tommy Aaron, Mark O' Meara, Charl Schwartzel, Bubba Watson, Adam Scott, Doug Ford, Larry Mize, Vijay Singh, Nick Faldo, Mike Weir, and Fred Couples. While Charles Coody was collecting the signatures a small amount of excess sharpie was added to the flag at the top left. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot. A signed letter of provenance from Charles Coody will come with this lot.
