Arnold Palmer was first to qualify as one of the Big Four contenders for golf's biggest single purse, the $50,000 first prize in the World Series of Golf, which will be televised on NBC-TV network in color on Sept. 12-13 from the Firestone Country Club in Akron. Winner of the MAsters, he will be challenged by U.S. Open Champion Ken Venturi, British Open king Tony Lema, and Bobby Nichols, who held off the sensational charge of Jack Nicklaus to win the PGA crown.
