Arnold Palmer Perfectly Signed & Fully Inscribed 1954 US Amateur Champ with Trophy Photo - Wow
Before the blue collar professional there was a blue collar amateur. It is hard not to smile when you look at Arnold Palmer with his trophies just about to turn 25 years young. Arnold Palmer signed this oversize 15 1/4" x 19 1/4" photo after an extensive five-line review of the memorable point in time that would make his decision to turn professional in golf a much easier one. In perfect Arnold Palmer cursive he handwrote: "U.S. Amateur Championship Trophy Presented by Isaac B. Grainger President U.S. Golf Association, Country Club of Detroit - August 28, 1954 - Arnold Palmer." No less an authority then Jack Nicklaus calls the United States Golf Association's Amateur Championship a "Major." Whether it is or not is open to debate. What is known is that the 1954 US Amateur had a fellow who was selling paint in Cleveland (Arnold Palmer) put his golf game to test over a week of gritty match play, and crowned him champion by virtue of a 1-up win in the 36 hole finals match. That weeks event was contested at The Country Club of Detroit, and it is what Mr. Palmer considers the turning point of his career. 15 1/4" x 19 1/4." James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
