The cover of Time Magazine in the 1940's was most often reserved for world leaders and royality. Ben Hogan fit neither when he received the honor for the January 10, 1949 issue. He had risen to golf royality in 1948 winning both the US Open and PGA championships and this made him magazine worthy when Time Magazine showed up at Riviera C.C. to cover his appearance at the PGA stop that January. Four pages were dedicated to him in the magazine including a time lapse sequence of his swing which had already reached mythic proportions. Within a month of this cover, his game at the height of success would come to a quick halt on a Texas highway in a near-fatal automobile accident. The issue of that famous Time Magazine is offered here complete with spine strongly intact. The only flaw to this issue is a rubmark on the "I" in Time. Mr. Hogan has added a percise blue ink sharpie signature to the lower left corner of the magazine. Signature comes with a JSA auction house letter authenticity.
