The 1980 Italian Invitational was played in Tampa, Florida at the Temple Terrace Country Club. The tournament was a huge success with a variety of entertainers, baseball stars, players from other sports and a sprinkle of local and state politicians. Some names include Joe DiMaggio, Roger Maris, Al Lopez, Yogi Berra, Stan Musial, Spiro Agnew, Glen Campbell and more. At the last minute, Spiro Agnew had to pull out due to personal reasons. Out of nowhere, one of the contestants calls Bob Hope and gets him to promise to fill Spiro’s spot in the tournament. After the tournament has ended, the eating, drinking, and partying begins, it is also time to donate cash, checks or something else of value. Many of the contestants were familiar with signing personal and played items like bats, balls, gloves, hockey pucks, hundred-dollar bills, and even sets of golf clubs such as Roger Maris, Joe DiMaggio, Stan Musial, Perry Como, Don Hutson and finally Bob Hope which is now being offered by the Babe Zaharias Foundation. A signed letter from the founder of the Zaharias Golf Foundation, Hal Shaw, will accompany this lot. 36" - 42 1/2"
