Bobby Jones 1942 Arrives for Air Force Duty Original ACME Wire Photo
While Bobby Jones was too young to serve in World War I and contributed to relief efforts through exhibition golf tournaments, he would serve in the Air Force come World War II despite being deemed too old by some at 40 years old. He was a captain who was promoted to a major in 1943 and headed to England. In August 1944 then lieutenant colonel Robert T. Jones Jr. was discharged, after over two years of service. This offering is for a Bobby Jones 1942 Arrives for Air Force Duty Original ACME Wire Photo. June 29th 1942 is stamped on the reverse newspaper caption and additional industry stamping is also present. Jones in his uniform is a look in which many are unfamiliar with.
