Bobby Jones Signed 1928 US Amateur at Brae Burn CC Program - Rare

Items from any Bobby Jones Major Championship wins are few and far between, with very few originals from victories hitting the market place. Offered in this lot is one of those items, a program almost 90 years old that is from Jones' win at the 1928 United States Amateur at Brae Burn Country Club. This items ranks as one of the scarcest Jones' items The Golf Auction has had the pleasure of auctioning. A scarcely seen program in it's own right ( for condition of this complete publication of the U.S.G.A., please see extensive photos of item displayed with this lot), the collectaibility is greatly enhanced with the front cover being signed by Bobby Jones, in a vintage Robert T. Jones, Jr. script. This is one of the only Jones cover signed programs from one of his 1920's Major Championship victories in existence. In addition to Bobby Jones, the legendary Walter Hagen, a winner of 11 Majors himself, has also signed on the front cover. Accompanying these signatures are the autographs of 1921 US Amateur Champion Jesse P. Guilford, Seattle amateur Bon Stein, and 1926 US Amateur Champion George Von Elm. A seldom if ever again seen U.S.G.A. program which has signatures from 3 of the 7 champions of the U.S. Amateur in the 1920's presented on its cover. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed the autographs on this program and their paperwork of authenticity for all signatures contained comes to the winning bidder of this lot. The 1928 United States Amateur Championship saw Bobby Jones at the most dominant stage of his career. This match play event saw Jones post a staggering double digit triumph in each of his last three matches on the way to the title - quarter-final match (14 and 13 equaling the most decisive win in the events history), the semi-final Friday September 14 (13 and 12), and the route completing final win was a 10 and 9 victory over T. Phillip Perkins, who was a top competitor of the day as the reigning British Amateur Champion. It truly was a record setting Amateur for Jones, claiming his fourth of a record five career U.S.G.A. Amateur Championships.
