Bobby Jones Signed 1953 Walker Cup at The Kittansett Club Official Program

Unsurprising is it that Bobby Jones was nearby, as his protégé Charlie Yates captained the dominant 1953 United States Walker Cup Team at the Kittansett Club in Marion, Massachusetts. With a keen eye and face recognition of surely one of the finest to ever play the game of golf, a patron of the mid-century tournament showcasing the best amateur golfers in the world purchased this then 50 cent program and approached the intimidating Jones for an autograph request. Bobby Jones obliged, and remembering what side of the isle he is on added his ballpoint pen signature on the United States Team page just above Captain Yates. It would be the fourteenth matchup between the United States and their adversaries comprised of countrymen from British & Ireland. It was not a fair fight however, winning the competition handedly 9-3 with help from the 1952 US Amateur Champion and co-signer of this program Jack Westland. Westland would go 2-0 in his matches. It presents in good condition, with some discoloring on the edging of the bottom half from patron usage noted for accuracy purposes.

Champion of the 'Impregnable Quadrilateral' in 1930 and visionary for Augusta National Golf Club and co-founder of The Masters Tournament, career amateur Bobby Jones was undefeated Walker Cup singles matches tallying a perfect 5-0. United States had a matching record with zero losses while Jones was a contributor, in 1922, 1924, 1926, and 1928 and 1930 as playing captain.
