Bobby Jones Signed Dwight D. Esienhower Print - Personalized
One of the most renown works of golf art unquestionably remains President Dwight D. Eisenhower's portrait of post-swing Bobby Jones painted influenced by Thomas Stephens' portrait. Eisenhower's original can be found over the fireplace in Butler Cabin at Augusta National, where it is the centerpiece as the new champion receives his green jacket from the past. Prints of Eisenhower's work, a detailed study of Bobby Jones post-swing looking at the artist, are highly coveted in their own right and primarily only feature Jones' signature if it was intended for a close friend. That was the situation for this flowing ink example to Clarence Knowles inscribed "In the glow of a long friendship" just above the strong penmanship. The original coloring has been well preserved, with subtle foxing from age present. Bobby Jones is widely considered a pioneer in the game of golf, reaching unparalleled success as a chosen amateur golfer propelling him quickly to mythical status. The career lawyer that co-founded the Augusta National Golf Club and a life-long amateur golfer. Merely mentioning Bobby Jones had an impact on The Masters would be selling him extremely short. He was The Masters, from building Augusta National Golf Club the way he envisioned doing it to starting the "Invitation Tournament" in 1934. The first playing was only four years of course after his Grand Slam year of 1930 in which he won the US Open, US Amateur, Open Championship and British Amateur. With encouragement from friend Bobby Jones, the amateur painter in Eisenhower painted his good friend while looking at Thomas Stephens' example of it. He then publicly presented it to Jones on March 7th, 1953. There are imperfections in the edging, detailed in accompanying lot photos. Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 10:00pm ET Sunday, November 21st. When placing INITIAL bid in the auction, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items with multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval, and the clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will automatically close at 10pm ET
4. All available lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 10pm ET
