Coming by way of Babe Zaharias Foundation's founder Hal Shaw is Burt Reynolds Personal Wilson Staff Irons, Woods & Putter in Wilson Bag. Shaw recalls the story of meeting both Reynolds and Dinah Shore at the Palma Ceia while working there as a young man. "In the mid 70's I was one of the golf instructors at The Palma Ceia Golf & Country Club here in Tampa, FL. This clubs history goes all the way back to 1916, it is a private club. Its tradition and membership can surely boast that its one of the few and rare clubs that never closed its doors or closed its golfing facility during WWII due to the lack of golf balls or other necessities or other operation resources. I was blessed to have met so many interesting personalities and shared my secret short cuts to this unexplainable game called golf This worldly list includes unusual characters such as Johnny Bench, Max Baer Jr. Fred Astaire, Chi Chi Rodriguez and many more, but one of the most unforgettable visits was from Dinah Shore and Burt Reynolds. They were invited by one of my students, she and Dinah had close family and friends. Dinah and Burt were there to play golf, socialize as well as be the guests of honor and party that night at a wonderful home close by.

Dinah Shore brought her golf clubs, shoes and the latest women's golfing attire, but Burt was not a golfer per se. He didn't bring any clubs, shoes etc. with him. My boss Henry Castillo came to the rescue and outfitted Burt with a complete set of Wilson woods, irons and bag (seen here). All this was gratis from Henry who was on Wilson's professional staff at the time. This day of golf was concluded with the next dat to be followed up before Dinah and Burt left their host and drove over to his condo in Sand Key. After the short trip to Tampa things settled down and they returned to California where Dinah had to tend to a personal emergency, Dinah's local Tampa host called about Dinah and Burt's clubs that were still in the bag room. Dinah, knowing she could replace everything with the latest clubs, tolf her friend to donate them to a needy cause along with Burt's that he had only used on that trip. My (Hal Shaw's) lady student told me what Dinah said and asked me to give them a good home." This lot is for the Burt Reynolds Wilson set, with the Dinah Shore clubs in a different lot of this same auction. A signed letter from the founder of the Zaharias Golf Foundation, Hal Shaw, will accompany this lot. 34" - 43"
