Champion Hal Sutton's 1980 North & South Amateur Championship Golf Contestant Badge/Clip
Hal launched his professional golf rookie campaign in 1981, only after gaining extensive national attention a year before by championing both the prestigious US Amateur and North and South Amateur Championships. Presented here, with Pinehurst Resort's Putter Boy calling card, is champion Hal Sutton's 1980 contestant badge. A runner up finish in 1978 would set the scene for a dominant 12 and 10 victory two years later over Kevin Walsh. It would be the largest margin since the infancy of the tournament in 1907. Hal's name is engraved on this contestant badge. It was a well-deserved seismic victory consisting of 3 consecutive birdies in the final round. A signed letter of provenance from Hal Sutton comes with this lot.
