Champion Jerry Pate Signed 1976 US Open at Atlanta Athletic Club Used Standard Bearer Sign - Framed JSA ALOA
Here is a true rarity - THE authentic tournament used standard bearer sign nameplates from the 1976 US Open won by Jerry Pate at the famed Atlanta Athletic Club! Further heightening its allure, it is hand signed by the winner with the meaningful inscription '1976 US Open' in black sharpie and professionally framed up for maximum presentation value. 'U.S. Open A.A.C.' in red, raised lettering is on a textured white plastic backing that shows its (welcomed) age of nearly 50 years. The champion signed 'PATE' is in matching font, this in black upper case letters, also composed of plastic, the below career-defining major tournament inscription just below and also in Pate's hand.
It came by way of head professional at Atlanta Athletic Club, who presented this framed standard bearer walking scoreboard tournament topper 'PATE' and US Open nameplates to our consignor. They were in fact used for each of the four tournament days, en-route to Jerry Pate victory. It would be at Bobby Jones home club of Atlanta Athletic club the US Open would be hosted, on the 50th year anniversary of his own first US Open victory. Jones would sadly not be there to witness it though, passing away two years prior. Items like this do not come around very often - this a true one-of-a-kind. This is a fantastic, patriotic game-used piece of USGA and Atlanta Athletic Club history from the original owner and available to the public for the first time. 22 1/2" x 28 3/4". It is tastefully matted and framed, with the red of the board matching the below U.S. OPEN A.A.C. lettering and finished off with a gold and brown wood frame. The verso contains a second example of the bumper sticker, along with the ticket prices list, pamphlet and written tournament recap. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity comes with this lot.
