Chuck Kocsis' 1952 Masters Tournament Low Amateur Used Putter with Letter

Charles "Chuck" Kocsis (January 27, 1913 – May 30, 2006) was a top American amateur golfer. The Golf Association of Michigan voted Chuck Kocsis the Michigan amateur golfer of the century and he was a member of the first class elected into the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame. Kocsis, better known as Chuck, was introduced to the game as a caddie at the Phoenix Country Club, which is now Rogell Municipal Golf Course. One of fourteen children, he grew up in the Old Redford area of Detroit. Attended Redford High and was victorious at the city and state championship levels. Winner of six Michigan Amateurs, three Michigan Opens (1931, 1945, 1946), individual NCAA Champion, member of 3 U.S. Walker Cup teams, member of two NCAA Championship teams at the University of Michigan, low amateur in two Masters, low amateur in two U.S. Opens, runner-up at the 1956 U.S. Amateur, and runner-up at the 1937 Western Amateur. Chuck also found success on the senior level winning several National and International Senior Amateurs.
We are pleased to present in this lot the putter Kocsis used in 1952 when he won the low amateur at the Masters Tournament. The putter is in excellent condition with some marks from being tournament used. A letter penned by "Chuck" accompanies the club and reads as follows:
"Dear Bob:
The mallet head aluminum putter with the goose neck shaft was modified to accommodate the shaft. My name is stamped on the face.
This is the putter I used in 1952 when I was low amateur in The Masters. Sam Snead won the tournament. I beat the field the last two rounds. The weather was very bad- some snow and cold wind.
'Chuck' Kocsis"
