Frank Stranahan's 1951 Mexican National Amateur Champions Sterling Punch Bowl
Frank Stranahan for a time period in the late 1940's and into the early 1950's wouldn't be far wrong if he considered the Mexican Amateur golf crown his personal possession. In 1951 he beat the reigning U.S. amateur champion Billy Maxwell , 3 and 2 in the finals, it marked the third time Stranahan held the Mexican National Amateur title since 1946. His victory in the '51 final,in a match he never trailed, came at the Mexico City Country Club on October 28. A large punch bowl was Frank's champions trophy, offered in this lot, the front is inscribed AMG - Nacional De Aficionados 1951 - Categoria Campeonto - Champion - Frank R. Stranahan. Engraved on the underside of the punch bowl is Sterling Mexico - 925. Dimensions of this attractive trophy feature a 16" diameter top while the diameter of the base is 11 1/2", it stands 10" tall.
A portion of the Frank Stranahan collection proceeds will be donated to The First Tee of Lake Erie.
