Frank Stranahan's "A Century of Golf" Book
The Western Golf Association to commemorate their 100th anniversary(1899-1999)of hosting the Western Amateur (one of the top amateur golf competitions in the United States) commissioned the printing of a centennial history. The 10" x 12 1/2" coffee table book was published by Sleeping Bear Press in 1998. It covers the rich history of the event which has been won by such amateur greats as Francis Ouimet, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. No two players have excelled more at this event other then Chick Evans (8 time champ) and the only other four time champion Frank Stranahan. The book which is offered in this lot was presented to Frank Stranahan by the Western Golf Association. It has been outfitted with a special hard bound cover which pays tribute to Stranahan's four victories in the Western Amateur (1946,49,51,52). This book/award remains in NrMT/MT condition.
A portion of the Frank Stranahan collection proceeds will be donated to The First Tee of Lake Erie.
