1953 US Open 2nd Place Amateur Medal - Frank Stranahan
Frank Stranahan was the picture of consistency at the 1953 U.S. Open held at Oakmont just outside Pittsburgh, Pa. Stranahan posted four straight rounds of 75 for an aggregate score of 300 significantly behind the winner Ben Hogan at 283. His score of 300 was the second lowest total posted by an amateur trailing only the 296 score of Frank Souchak. For his efforts in the '53 U.S. Open Frank was awarded by the United States Golf Association this scalloped edged medal bearing the logo of U.S.G.A. on one side with the reverse carrying the following engravings:

The lower portion of the verso side of this 1 1/2" diameter treasure carries the stamping 14k indicating its gold content.
