Gary Player's Personal 1965 Grand Slam Achievement Geneva 14k Gold Clock with Provenance - Wow!

Prior to 1965 golf's modern day career grand slam had only been done twice before and was an unrealistic feat for most. Johannesburg, South Africa's Gary Player joined Gene Sarazen and Ben Hogan in 1965 in accomplishing the ultimate, yet improbable, career feat. Known by his fans and tour peers alike as 'The Black Knight,' Gary had his sights set on completing the fourth final leg since 1962. “I said, ‘Mr. Dey, I’m going to win the U.S. Open one day. I thought I’d win it this year, but I let it slip. But when I win, I’m going to give all the money back, no matter how much it is. I’m going to give it all back to the USGA for cancer – my mother had died of cancer – and junior golf, which I love,’ ” Gary Player told top USGA official Joe Dey at Oakmont. Three years later the South African showed up to Bellerive with his Shakespeare fiberglass shafted clubs in the trunk and a 16-year old caddy named Frank Pagel beside him prepared to fulfil his promise. The unconventional approach worked and Gary Player completed the career Grand Slam quicker than any before him, at the age of 26.

Along with the customary US Open trophy and medal, Gary Player received this intricate 1965 Grand Slam Achievement Geneva 14k Gold Clock with each of his then four major victories and his winning scores. Player would more than double his major win mark prior to calling it a career, finishing with 9 wins and the securing a place among the all-time greats of the game. Gary's name in script is prominently placed across the center of the clip below the clock above. This one-of-a-kind item from Gary Player's collection comes with a signed letter of provenance from his grandson. 2 1/2" x 1 3/8". 26 grams including clock. Extremely substantial piece of jewelry with intrinsic value for its material alone.
