Gene Sarazen Signed Personal 1996 Masters Honorary Starter Used Wilson Invex Driver

Gene Sarazen signed and used used this very uniquely shaped grey Wilson Invex driver to tee off as an Honorary Starter at the 1996 Masters Tournament. With a black 'Player Matched 4.0' shaft, Sarazen stood alongside fellow past champions Sam Snead and Byron Nelson as they always had. Gene Sarazen led off the tournament from 1981 through 1999, passing only a month later. Many traditions collectively make up the 'Tradition Unlike Any Other,' with in addition to the Honorary Starters, there is the Masters Club Dinner reserved for champions, and the Par 3 Contest just for starters. Sarazen participated in all of those time and time again. Signs of usage on this club are in the traditional areas, sole and face markings. The final photo in this lot features The Squire holding this driver. When examining these photos notice the short and rounded ferrule, black shaft and aforementioned unique driver head design that Wilson, nor Gene, stuck with for too long. 44." A signed letter of provenance from Mary Ann Sarazen will come with this lot.
