Inclusion in the corridor of excellence! The Hall of Fame plaques are among the foremost tangible artifacts from a worthy athlete's career, cementing their place in the history of that sport. It is personal, presented to that athlete after countless hours of work to reach the pinnacle.

A surprise to no one, Gene Sarazen was part of the inaugural class of Professional Golf Association Hall of Famers in 1940. This predated the World Golf Hall of Fame's (first) Pinehurst, NC opening by 34 years - when he was again included in the original group of inductees. By way of his Daughter Mary Ann Sarazen, this lot showcases Gene Sarazen's personally awarded 1940 PGA of America induction plaque. 'Awarded by The Professional Golfers' Association of America to Gene Sarazen In Recognition of his election to the PGA Golf's Hall of Fame in the year 1940' is written in stylistic fonts on this significant award. It certainly wasn't a hard decision, as Sarazen was at that point the only Grand Slam champion, 3-time PGA Championship winner, and 1935 Masters Champion with the help of a final round double eagle. This colorful wooden plaque displays very well, measuring 17 x 13." A signed letter of provenance from Mary Ann Sarazen will come with this lot.
