Gene Sarazen's Personal 1964 William D Richardson Memorial Trophy Award

The Golf Writers Association of America hands out the William D. Richardson Memorial Trophy each year to an individual as their site states "Given to recognize an individual who has consistently made an outstanding contribution to golf." Richardson, of The New York Times, was instrumental in the founding of the GWAA." In 1964, this very award plaque was presented to Gene Sarazen. This honor carries much significance in the golf community, in the trophy cases of the most esteemed fellow golfers over the history of the game since 1947 including past recipients President Eisenhower, Bob Jones, Francis Ouimet, Walter Hagen, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Walter Hagen & others. The trophy depiction with 'To Gene Sarazen 1964' is engraved on this wooden plaque that was Gene Sarazen's and in the family since. A signed letter of provenance from Mary Ann Sarazen will come with this lot. 12 x 10"
