Gene Sarazen's Personal 1997 Honorary Italian Citizenship Award

Here is the 1997 Honorary Italian Citizenship award certificate in colorful stylized typeface writing that was presented to Gene Sarazen two years prior to his passing. Gene Sarazen's Italian heritage was important to him, as his parents were underprivileged Sicilian immigrants. Gene was born with the name Eugenio Saraceni and changed his name to Gene Sarazen after seeing it in the newspaper - published for getting a holf-in-one. To him Eugenio Saraceni sounded like a violinist more than a golfer. This certificate uses his original name, and is translated from Italian to English below. "The City Council Given that on the initiative of the mayor and councilors the In today's session, the municipal council proposed to the municipal council the awarding of honorary citizenship to Mr. Saraceni Eugenio born on 27 February 1901 and resident in Boston (USA), that this contribution intends to demonstrate the gratitude to Mr. Eugenio Saraceni for the high sporting merits achieved in the 1930s in the international field in the field of golf, giving prestige and honor to the American nation and in particular to Italy Unanimous votes cast by show of hands; Resolution conferred to Mr. Eugenio Saraceni the honorary citizenship of Olevano Romano." 11 x 15".
