Hal Sutton's 1989 Masters Tournament Par-3 Contest Hole-In-One Trophy Vase
Though not a green jacket this award and similar one's for a hole-in-one, eagle or double eagle are presented for outstanding feats yearly during the Masters. They are highly prized by player's and known in short on the Tour as "Master's Crystal." For Hal Sutton this prized piece of his trophy case was earned with his 1989 Masters Par-3 Contest hole-in-one at Augusta National on Wednesday, April 5. It would take a perfect shot in the rain on the 7th hole to capture the ace and trophy. This marked the 22nd hole-in-one in Masters Par 3 contest history and the second of 1989, the first year with multiple 1's in fifteen years. "Par-3 Contest - Hole-In-One - 1989" is written on the bowl front and center, just below the Augusta National Golf Club logo. High-end glassmaker Baccarat out of France stamped the bottom of the vase. A truly difficult trophy to obtain this piece occupies an elite stratosphere in Masters collecting hierarchy, also representing the first example we have offered. A signed letter from Hal Sutton will accompany this lot. James Spence Authentication (JSA) has reviewed this signature and their auction letter of authenticity will come with this lot.
