Hal Sutton's 1999 Ryder Cup at The Country Club (Brookline) Team USA Humidor
Presented here is US Team member Hal Sutton's 1999 Ryder Cup at Brookline Stuart Kern Wood with Leather Ltd Humidor. Exuding class is this victory cigar humidor that was gifted to influential individuals for their contribution to the successful International matches. It is in very good condition, with a stitched black leather top featuring a pressed 1999 Ryder Cup logo. Stuart Kern is written above its country of manufacturing in "America" on the verso felt. The humidor's humidifier has been removed from this example, with the winning bidder to attached their own if intending to use is as such. The 1999 Ryder Cup did not disappoint, as it had the drama and fireworks that many hope for with each bi-yearly match between Europe and the United States. The Europeans lead 10-6 prior to the final round, needing 4 points on that Sunday to retain the Cup. Many remember Leonard having his match with Olazabal after holing a 45 foot putt on the second to last hole. Others remember the collared shirts that Team USA wore on that Sunday. This match is also known as the "Battle of Brookline." The American team won the competition by a margin of 14½ to 13½, the closest score possible in a Ryder Cup competition except for a tie.

Hal Sutton's golf game flourished while growing up in his hometown of Shreveport, Louisiana. In fact the highly touted amateur golfer chose to stay closeby after high school and went to local Centenary College. It wouldn't take much time for the All American to put his school and town on the national golfing map when he received 'Golf Magazine's 1980 College Player of the Year' after 14 victories and lifting the small liberal arts school to 9th in the Nation. Unsurprisingly Hal Sutton would find great success at the professional level, notching 14 PGA Tour victories between 1982 and 2001. The 1983 season was a one for Sutton, earning PGA Tour Player of the Year honors as the leading money winner and the new accolade of 'major champion.' Sports Illustrated's golf writer Dan Jenkins' emphatically recapped his 1983 PGA Championship triumph with "There's a New Bear on the Loose - Hal Sutton Put a Death Grip on the PGA Championship To Stop a Classic Jack Nicklaus Charge." This came only months after his The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass win. Representing his country became a common role Sutton found himself in, as a 4-time Ryder Cup player in 1985, 1987, 1999, and 2002, before being chosen as the Ryder Cup Captain in 2004. He was a victorious Walker Cup team member in 1979 and 1981. <br><br>After playing two decades on the tour Hal began to shift his attention to philanthropy, with that soon becoming a main focus. This didn't go unnoticed in the golfing community and Sutton was the 2007 Payne Stewart Award recipient. He would raise more than $2 million with fellow Louisiana natives David Toms and Kelly Gibson for Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims. The Golf Auction has been very appreciative of the opportunity to offer some of Hal's Collection, including his 1998 TOUR Championship Calamity Jane Trophy, Gold Plated Scotty Cameron Putter for 2000 Players Win and all four of his 2000 Players Championship winning scorecards when it was "The Right Club."

Place your bids now as this auction will close LOT BY LOT beginning at 9:00pm ET Sunday, July 18th. When placing INITIAL bid, you must agree to the terms BEFORE confirming your bid. All items that have received multiple bids in the auction will be eligible for the extended bidding period. Each lot will have its OWN COUNTDOWN CLOCK set for a 30-minute interval starting at 9pm ET. The clock will extend 30-minutes from the time of the most recently placed bid for that lot. If no bids are placed on that lot during a 30-minute period, the lot will close. Place your bids now!
1. You must place your initial bids BEFORE extended bidding begins to bid on the item in extended bidding
2. During extended bidding, you are allowed to bid only on items you PREVIOUSLY placed a bid on.
3. All lots with only ONE or NO BIDS will close at 9pm ET
4. All lots will begin closing on a LOT BY LOT basis at 9pm ET
