Hale Irwin Game Used 1974 Golf Bag US Open? Email from Hale's Son
The Massacre at Winged Foot was one of the most grueling Us Open's and Pga tour events ever. Hale Irwin won with a +7 287 the second highest winning score in us open history. In this lot we have Hale Irwin's golf bag from 1974, Hale used two bags that year and the Irwin's are not even sure which bag was used. This bag was given to Jeannie Jones who was an assistant at Old Warson CC in Ladue Missouri in 1975. Along with the Bag was a personalized Book, Massacre at Winged Foot, "to Jeannie" Jeannie gave the book and Bag to her Dad, Dr Leon Jones, Dr Jones gave to bag to our consignor whom is his Neighbor and he has kept it for several years. When the neighbor got the bag he contacted Steve Irwin , Hale's son and VP of Hale Irwin Golf. Steve replied "Yes, as far as Dad can remember the information you have is correct." in response to verifying that Hale gave the bag to Jeannie. As a followup Steve was asked if this was the bag from the 1974 US Open, " It is entirely possible the bag could have been used to win tournaments in 1974, maybe the Us Open.... However Dad is not sure. He does have another bag from that year with the US open Clubs in it, so he is not sure which bag could have been used. " The Neighbor then followed up with a request of the exact models of clubs used in the open, so he could compile a replica set of the clubs for display. In this lot we have the golfbag, the personalized book to Jeannie, a replica set of the clubs Hale used in the open, a Hale Irwin model golfball and a copy of the emails between the Neighbor and Steve Irwin.
